How to review reading miscues

Marking after the minute gives the adult time to correct mistakes and keeps software suggestions from becoming the score.

Begin with the last word

Confirm the final word reached before reviewing individual marks. Only words through that position belong in attempted words for the sample.

Use one visible convention

In the current release, a tapped printed word counts as one parent-confirmed error. Tap it again to remove the mark. The app does not assign separate categories for substitutions, omissions, insertions, repetitions, or self-corrections.

Review every mark

Fluency Lens does not use the microphone or speech recognition. Every highlighted word comes from an adult tap and remains editable before the result is saved.

Save enough context

The saved local snapshot keeps the passage identifier and version, elapsed time, last word, reviewed error marks, and scoring-rule version. That makes the calculation explainable later.

Use neutral language. A miscue is an observation from one sample, not a label for the child.
